Choosing the right countertops for your kitchen can be fun but also overwhelming. There are so many options, from wood, to marble, to granite, and many more. Let’s talk about concrete!

Concrete countertops have gained a lot of popularity in recent years. They can make your kitchen have a modern, upscale look. They are durable and easy to clean. But there are some things to consider before deciding to get them.

For starters, as durable as they are, they are not indestructible. They can be chipped or cracked, especially if something heavy is dropped on an edge. And don’t use abrasive cleaners or tools on them.

In their natural state, concrete countertops are porous. They need to be sealed well with a food-safe sealer from the beginning. And about once a year you will need to reseal them. If you don’t, they can attract bacteria and stain more easily.

Despite sealing them, there are certain acidic juices that can eat through the sealer and leave stains on the concrete. If you get coffee, lemon juice, wine, or other citrus juices on them, wipe it up immediately.

Lastly, make sure to use a cutting board when chopping food. Cutting directly on the concrete can leave scratches and marks.
