Mold in the kitchen is often overlooked. But mold can fester and grow in the kitchen just like it can in any other room. So the question is, where to check for mold in your kitchen?

From forgotten leftovers in the back of the fridge to the not so easily forgotten dishes that pile up in the sink. There are ample surfaces for mold to take up growth in your kitchen. Using the stove and running hot water can add humidity and cause kitchen mold to grow quickly.

Some of the common places to check for mold include:

  • The kitchen sink in, on, and under. Piled up dirty dishes, food that goes through the garbage disposal, wet sponges that sit in the sink or caddies, and faucets that run. All of these things contribute to the potential growth of mold in the kitchen. So check these areas often if you want to prevent mold. Under the sink, it’s also important to check in case there any leaky pipes which is a big problem for mold.
  • The refrigerator and the pantry. Expired food can cause mold. Your fridge and pantry should remain free of old food and services should be wiped down regularly.
  • Microwave and stove. These places of your kitchen see a lot of food spillage and grease splatters. These are two things that mole loves to call home. Not only is keeping these things clean and dry important for having a clean home it’s also an important way to prevent mold.
  • Other places in the kitchen. Wooden cutting boards, trash cans, behind the stove, and windows and seals in the kitchens are like heaven for mold spores. Keeping these places clean and dry is critical to keep mold at bay.

To keep your kitchen mold-free be sure to do the following:

  1. Ventilate when cooking and doing dishes by opening a window, using a fan, or both.
  2. Clean and dry the top of the stove, microwave, counters, cabinets, and windowsills regularly.
  3. Clean out the inside of your fridge and your fridge drip tray often
  4. Take the trash out every day.

Following the suggestions will help to prevent mold in and around your kitchen.
